10. Guaranteed to get at least a little something in the sack.
9. If you get tired, wait 10 minutes and go at it again.
8. The uglier you look, the easier it is to get some.
7. You don't have to compliment the person who gave you candy.

Do You Have Dementia?

Below are four (4) questions and a bonus question. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, answer all of them immediately. OK?

Let's find out just how clever you really are.

Ready? GO!!!

First Question:

You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?

(Scroll down for answer.)

Answer:

If you answered that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!

(Try not to screw up in the next question.)

To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first question.

Second Question:

If you overtake the last person, then you are...?

(Scroll down for answer.)

Answer:

If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST Person?

(You're not very good at this, are you?)

Third Question:

Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only. Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it. Ready? Go!

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

(Scroll down for answer.)

Answer:

Did you get 5000?

The correct answer is actually 4100. Don't believe it? Check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the last question right!

Fourth Question:

Mary's father has five daughters:

1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono.

What is the name of the fifth daughter?

(Scroll down for answer.)

Answer:

Did you answer, Nunu? Well, that's wrong!

Her name is Mary. (Read the question again!)

Okay, now the bonus round.

There is a mute person who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth he successfully expresses himself to the clerk, and the purchase is completed.

Now, a blind man wishes to buy a comb. How should he express himself?

(Scroll down for answer.)

Answer:

If you answered: He points to his head, and imitates the action of combing ones hair..then you are wrong!

He just has to open his mouth and ask the clerk! He is blind, not mute!

These questions were so simple, but you really cant think logically can you?

KEEP THIS GOING TO FRUSTRATE THE SO-CALLED SMART PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE!

Sunday, October 30, 2005 My New Toy!

I love the new toy the guys gave me for my Birthday. It's a Pentax Optio camara (6 mp...can you say...wow). It takes great pictures and I love the small size of this camara because it fits so nice in my purse, and check out the size of the screen so you can actually see the picture you are taking.

Yesterday I tried it out at the varsity football game:

Here, G-2 is with the Announcer at his "non-paying job". Can you believe his dad and I went up to take this picture and they let G-2 in and kicked us out. I don't know who took this picture, probably the policeman that made us leave.

Here we have Sheri's son at work also (LOL). I loved how this picture turned out, it just captures "Michael" and his charm so well. Ya'll have to remember, I've known this young man since first grade, he's like my own.

Here we have Texas High School Football. Actually G-2 took this picture from up in the annoucer's booth. He says "It is the best seat in the house".

Saturday, October 29, 2005 Rude, Crude, & Socially Unacceptable!

Ok now, I am so relieved that I’m not the only sicko out there. But I can be obnoxious today because it’s my birthday! Yes it is the last damn year I can say that I am in my early 40’s. I get a chuckle when I read about all of you young moms and poo because for a moment I think…”Thank God I’m done with that!” Then reality kicks in and I think WTF, I work in the schools….I have had to deal with poo, I’ve been peed on, and not to mention the times that I have been slimed. I do have my limitations however, when the sweet darlings emesis I yell for “MAINTANANCE” because I would have to be sharing the trash can with them if I have to deal with it.

Anyway, back to the Birthday. The boys are at a Scouting thingy this morning, then it will be off to the football game to watch Sheri’s son play and my son spot for the announcer, followed by hopefully a nice dinner (yes I shut down the kitchen the weekend of my birthday…you can’t change tradition). The guys gave me a new camera and I love it! I’ll get pictures tonight and hopefully I won’t destroy this one because my track record with cameras isn’t’ too good.

Wow, what do you know, in one post I have covered birthdays, poo, pee, slime and barf. That has got to be some sort of record.

Friday, October 28, 2005 Have you been "Ghosted"

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
I found this at "This Full House" and thought this would be fun. If you are one of the "victims" of my "Ghosting" here are the rules. If I didn't "Ghost" you, you can still play. What a fun, calorie-less way to celebrate!
Want to play a game?

The rules are easy -- on all things chocolatey and filled with caramel -- I swear!

(1) Now it's your turn to "ghost" two other bloggers.
(2) Stop by their blogs and leave a comment on their latest post saying, "You've Just Been Ghosted -- Come Over And Grab A Puking Pumpkin!"
(3) Copy and paste the puking pumpkin somewhere on your blog (either in a post or on your sidebar, perhaps) so that everyone can see that you have been "ghosted" and will not "ghost" you again. This will also let you know who you can "ghost."
(4) Link to this post (or a post of your own) for directions, grab the puking pumpkin and go "ghost" 2 bloggers on your sidebar (preferably, somewhere you haven't commented in a while or a blog you've never commented before or new to the blogosphere) an<

It's Friday!!

TGIF in the biggest way!

Here's a little thought for the day. One day I was sitting in an employee meeting and some of the employees were complaining about stuff-not anything specific-just stuff. One employee said something to the affect of "I think I'm going to check other pastures to see if the grass is any greener." One of the managers responded, "Well, the grass might be a little greener here if you watered it more and cut down on the fertilizer!"

I thought that response was a classic. If you think about it, it holds a lot of truth. Sitting and complaining about what you don't have while watching your neighbor work toward reaching their goal (green grass) gets you no where. You have to get up and DO something about the situation! Sometimes going in a different direction (job change, living situation, a move to a different city) is the answer. On other occasions, sitting back and assessing what we already have and making a few minor changes to make the most of what we already have is the answer.

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, October 26, 2005 A Chronicle of My Mobile computing Experience

So its been a while- OK, a llloooonnnnngggg while since I've written about my Tablet PC and how I am incorporating its use into my daily routine. You might be thinking "this is not a big deal". Oh, how wrong you are, my friends.

A little history. First, this is my husband, a true computer geek who gets frustrated when I refer to computer peripherals as "that thingy", no further explanation needed. Second, I am a computer tard (that's short for retard). My only computer experience has been self taught. I'll never forget the first time I had to work on a computer (doing a lotus spread sheet non-the-less). I was TERRIFIED. No, not scared, TERR-I-FIED! I was afraid to turn the damn thing on let alone work on it! Luckily, I entered into my "mommy" stage. I stayed home for 5 years with those rug rats. No computer experience was required, of course I wish they had a button I could push to put them in "sleep mode", or reboot when they start acting flaky. Then, that fated day came and it was time to re-enter the work force. I was more than qualified to do the job I was interviewing for. The one drawback-I was not computer literate. Of course, leave it to my wit & charm to come up with the following answer when the interviewer expressed concern about my lack of computer knowledge. My response was "well, are all of the keys in the same spot on the keyboard as they are on the typewriter?" Interviewer answers "yes". Then I say, "Well, as far as I know 2 + 2 still equals 4-that hasn't changed (it was for a bookkeeping position). You tell me the keyboard of a computer is identical to a typewriter, another plus. If you think about it, I didn't have any motherhood experience and I have managed to keep my little darlings alive and kicking. That should be a good indication of my willingness to learn new things. So, exactly what are your concerns?" His answer-"You're hired. I like your spunk!"

Back to my Tablet experience. I'll start by saying that using my tablet has been quite liberating. I can sit anywhere in my house (including "the man chair" which is now in high demand) & work on my computer. When our internet is working (see my husband's post about Time Warner), I can get on-line and take care of business from anywhere in the house or on the patio (this includes the crapper folks!). A little TMI perhaps, but I want you to really understand the full benefits of my new friend. Suffice it to say, I am really enjoying the flexibility and freedom I've experienced.

I haven't ventured outside of the house with my handy little gizmo. This makes me feel like I am not using my tablet to its fullest potential. You know, it's like the Cadillac your grandparents bought but only drove down the street to Church on Sundays when it wasn't raining. However, I'm making a concerted effort to change. As a matter of fact, I'm writing this post using the inking feature (I will figure out how to insert a picture of inking some time soon) while sitting in my living room on my comfy sofa watching the Astros (don't go there).

As I've stated before, I am really good at starting posts, just not at ending them. That being said, in an effort not to bore you, I'll write more later. For now, I'm pretty proud of what I was able to do thus far. Check back soon!

Tuesday, October 25, 2005 What Does Dr. Suess Know About Aging?

30 Years Difference:

1973: Long hair 2003: Longing for hair
1973: KEG 2003: EKG
1973: Acid rock 2003: Acid reflux
1973: Moving to California because it's cool 2003: Moving to California because it's warm
1973: Trying to look like Liz Taylor 2003: Trying NOT to look like Liz Taylor
1973: Seeds and stems 2003: Roughage

1973: The Grateful Dead 2003: Dr. Kevorkian
1973: Going to a new, hip joint 2003: Receiving a new hip joint
1973: Rolling Stones 2003: Kidney Stones
1973: Passing the drivers' test 2003: Passing the vision test

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things. The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1987 . They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up. Their lifetime has always included AIDS. Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic. The CD was introduced the year they were born. They have always had an answering machine. They have always had cable. They cannot fathom not having a remote control. Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show. Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave. They never took a swim and thought about Jaws. They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are. They don't know who Mork was or where he was from. They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel", or "de plane Boss, de plane". They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is. McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers. They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Do you feel old yet? (Sorry). Pass this on to the other old fogies on your list. Notice the larger type, that's for those of you who have trouble reading.

Rosa Parks Dies

Rosa Parks died yesterday evening at 92. She is known for being “The mother of the civil rights movement” when she refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. Her arrest triggered a 381-day boycott of the bus system organized by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who later earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.

History remembers her efforts benefiting and advancing African Americans. Here at Celebrating Women we also recognize her as an exceptional woman who also helped pave the way for all women. Her actions were extaordinarily brave in our real world.

Go Nutz Shopping!

Got my goodies in yesterday...WOOT WOOT, damn I love shopping (as she gains control of herself). I've already started my Chritmas shopping and now Kel goes and adds more stuff! (Big-G says thanks a lot).

I'm happy with the products; the shopping was easy and everything was packed up really well. I'm also real happy that everything came in it's own box, which makes wrapping them so much easier. I got a topiery for a friend (but I may keep it now because it matches my house...hehe) the flash made it look pink, but it is actually burgandy; a puzzle for one of my younger nephews; spa set for a friend (not Sheri...she will be reading this..LOL); and another bath set for one of our nieces. Shopping online is so cool!

The Shortest Measure of Time!

I have now discovered the shortest measure of time! Yes, that's right, if you ever wondered what the shortest measure was?....well look no more!

The shortest measure is:

The time it takes the 16 year old boy to grab the car keys and back out of the driveway when you ask him to run an arrend for you for the first time (his first solo).

Yep....that is it...call Gueniss

Sunday, October 23, 2005 Getting Ready For Christmas

During recent visits with family and friends, I've noticed similar reactions when you bring up the subject of the holidays. For instance, for Thanksgiving one family member stated that they were going to visit another who lost both her son and husband in one year and has been a bit down in the dumps. The thought was, it would be more fun to visit with a family member in mourning than to spend it with another family member and that part of the family. Then the subject of Christmas came up. It was met with a unison sound of groans amongst all. I complained of not looking forward to getting out the decorations and then putting them away (I actually had a dream that I was putting them away but couldn't remember getting them out). Then of course was the issue of finances. How much is wasted on needless stuff that would be forgotten. Of course, not only is there concern about wastefulness, but also the concern of having enough to buy what everyone wants! Finally, the topic of family visits and the dread associated with that.

Has society in general lost the true meaning of Christmas? How did something that was so magical when we were kids become something dreaded as adults?

Is anyone else experiencing the dread of the approaching holidays?

So Tell Me How You Really Feel?

So now it’s Sunday. Honestly, I’m sort of in piss-poor mood. Big-G is pretty sick; G-2 is almost well and myself? Hell, when do we get to stop? With sinus stuff in one hand and mydol in the other…we march on.

Our ‘Stros lost last night (sniff, sniff); the house is a mess (not really but it’s not like I like to keep it). G-2 told me last night he would wash the dishes and you can guess what I saw this morning…all the damn dirty dishes. The princess cat really thinks she is royalty; if her litter box isn’t clean to her satisfaction, she takes a dump right out side of it…ugggggggg! I must thank her for the lovely gift she left me this morning! The lizard, well he’s just plain ugly!

Ok, Ok…..enough ranting. I tell myself when I’m in this sort of mood, and take the time to b*ch, that I must end with one positive. Thinking……….thinking…………still thinking……
I’ll get back to you on this one.

Thursday, October 20, 2005 What Religion is Your Bra?

A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to buy a bra for my wife." "What type of bra?" asked the clerk. "Type?" inquires the man, "There's more than one type?"

Look around," said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable. Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of bras to choose from. Relieved, the man asked about the types. The saleslady replied:

There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer? Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them. The Saleslady responded, "It is all really quite simple...

The Catholic type supports the masses.
The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen,

The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright, and
The Baptist makes mountains out of mole hills.

Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, G, and H are the letters used to define bra sizes? If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for, it is about time you became informed!

{A} Almost Boobs...
{B} Barely there.
{C} Can't Complain!
{D} Dang!
{DD} Double dang!
{E} Enorm! ous!
{F} Fake.
{G} Get a Reduction.
{H} Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up !

I suggest you all do the same. Go to the website and check it out. Just enter your name, city and state to see if yours is on file. After your license comes on the screen, click the box marked "please remove"... This will remove it from public viewing, but not from law enforcement... http://www.license.shorturl.com/

I stole this meme from Christie who stole it from Jen:

Monday, October 17, 2005 Is it the full moon?

As you read in SuZan's post below, she has been through the ringer this week. As I visit other blogs, I've noticed many of us are in the same boat. What is going on with us?

I've spent a lot of time analyzing this over the weekend. For me, it was a self evaluation more or less. I had to identify what has happened this past year, both positive and negative. I then analyzed the negative and pinpointed the areas that I have control over. Listed the things that I can do to change the situation. I visited the items over which I have no control and tried to accept them or learn from them (gosh-this is starting to sound more & more like the 10 step program). I'm glad I did this exercise because it made me realize and appreciate that, even though I have a few negative situations going on, I have a huge list of positives.

Another thing that was interesting to me was, several of the things I had on my "negative list" weren't really that negative. Maybe stagnant would be a better word. I'm kind of "stuck" in a few areas of my life. Why am I stuck. Fear! Fear of change, fear of failure, fear of losing control. Losing control? Yes, I'm afraid of certain things simply because I don't know the outcome. This mainly has to do with my children. Maybe some of you can relate to what I'm trying to say. When you are pregnant, or even before, you have this great plan of how your life will be with children, how you're going to raise those children, how the world will be, etc., etc. The first thing you figure out once you have children is-VERY LITTLE TURNS OUT THE WAY YOU PLAN IT! Sure, some of the stuff does. But, remember saying "My child will never do such and such." Then to our amazement, they not only do such and such, they do it bigger, louder, messier, well... you get the picture. My dream or vision was to have these great, well rounded children going off to college and then successful careers and a great family life. I feel that my children are great, well rounded children, but as they grow and change, I'm having to accept that their vision for their future may not exactly be the same as my vision! This is scary stuff here people! Especially for a control freak!

I could go on & on, but I have other things to take care of. I will share a few of the changes that I've made or am in the process of making. First, I've changed my hair style. I am no longer long & blond'ish. I am now short and brown'ish (my natural color). So far people have told me I look five years younger! Next on my list-a job change! Wow, I said it. Yes, I'm not happy where I am. Instead of sitting and complaining, I've decided to see what's out there and go for it!

I'm going to stop here so as not to overwhelm myself. You know, I'm pretty good at starting these posts, but I'm horrible at ending them. I'll end by saying to all my blogger buddies, have a great day and enjoy the positive things that are happening!

Sunday, October 16, 2005 They Do Say It Comes In Threes

The past week has been very trying period here. Sheri pretty much had to carry the load as I have been worthless up until this weekend about blogging. First, in our own household, everyone is fine and well. But last weekend, we found out that two of our family members here in Houston, had to be hospitalized. One due to heart attack; and the other set off by postpartum depression. I won’t go into detail out of respect for them but the road to recovery is well on the way for both.
.
Even though my husband is a native Houstonian, his Mother and all of her family are from New England. The next news we received is a worst case scenario about the flooding in Alstead, NH. His cousin and her husband refused to evacuate before the rains, and where their house and two-car garage once stood, is now a 12 foot gully. The house, garage and even slab are gone. Even though I had never met them, I feel deeply the pain that my husband and his mother are going through.

What has surprised me through all of this is my own body’s reaction. I have used every spare moment I have had to sleep. I even took a half a day off during the week and came home and went to sleep. I keep saying that I should be super-charged for at least a few months now but at least I’m feeling “normal” again. I good friend of mine sent me an email with some wonderful words to remind me what it is all about:

Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keep You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,

But Only God keeps You Going!

Saturday, October 15, 2005 My Favorite Type of Housework!

Any one that knows me, knows that I am NOT a Domestic Diva (I proved that with my drain delima). As a matter of fact, I would rather work outside the home and hire a maid to clean, than do it myself. However there is a type of housework that I just LOVE to do.

This summer we had our air conditioner replaced, inside and out. When they put in the new thermostat, it didn’t cover the area of the old one. It has been bothering me so I decided it was time to address. I have practically retextured all wall surfaces in the house with joint compound. It’s cheap, it’s forgiving, and you can do so much with it.

So I started by filling in the area with the joint compound and let it dry. Now in the hallway I had lightly sanded the walls after I put on the texture but I got it on smooth enough to just go with it. After it dried, I just touched it up with the paint color and again let it dry.

And then comes the fun part, the faux finish (Big G just hates the word “faux”). I use a mocha colored glaze and wet my rag, put on a dab (hmmmm…..precise measurements), and then dab the rag since I am only doing a small patch.

Ta-Da…Patch is finished and you would never know that there was a patch job done.

Now I Know What's Wrong!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:

* The car isn't washed.
* The bills aren't paid.
* There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter.
* The flowers don't have enough water.
* There is still only 1 check in my check book.
* I can't find the remote.
* I can't find my glasses.
* And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Update on Maggie

Thank you so much to those of you that posted her link on your blog, and/or sent her get well wishes. Here's an update: She had surgery Wednesday during which they removed part of her brain. The doctors have told the family that there is nothing more they can do for her surgically. She is doing well considering what she's been through. The family is staying very positive and praying for the best.

People who meet Maggie fall in love with her. The hospital shared her story with the media and guess what, she made the news in St. Louis. Click here for updates and pictures.

Tuesday, October 11, 2005 Way Back Wednesday

Today is "Way Back Wednesday" at Mama Ducks. This week is "Homecoming".

Hey-I'm playing this week. OK, so I'm cheating a little, but I'm still playing! See, I don't have many pictures of my growing up years as there were a lot of "issues" when my mom died. It seems one sibbling took everything regardless of who they belonged to to get back at the other sibling. I'm kind of in the middle. Anyway, my teenagers just had their homecoming this past weekend! Yes, my son is a football player. No, my daughter doesn't cheer or participate in brigade; she plays soccer! I wish I would have gotten a better pictures of her fabo calves!

Enjoy!

The making of the mum & garder

The finished product

Picture on the above is my daughter & Oreo her dog. She is wearing the mum her date bought her. On the right below is my son with the garder his date bought him. Then you see my big and little boy together. They love each other so much. They wear their "fluff" to school the Friday of the "big game", the day before the dance.

My Son and daughter before they met up with their friends. Obviously not happy to be posing together.

My daughter with "the girls". She's in the brown & pink.

My daughter with the group. Note the distance my daughter puts between her & her date. She really didn't like him, but he asked and she didn't want to hurt his feelings.

My son with his date. Did you notice her dress is exactly the same cut, style & designer as my daughter's, just a different color? They look cute together, but they really are just friends.

This is the group my son went with. You see the girl in the hot pink gown standing in front of my son's date? That's his ex. I noticed that wherever my son was standing for pictures, she was there! Grrrr.

This is his group when they all rebelled and said "no more pictures". They have hung out together for the past three years. My how they have grown!

One last picture. My son coordinated the attire for the men for the evening. We dubbed them "the mem in black". They all found ties to match their dates' dress. Yes, a politician in the making that son of mine!

Did you play? Let us know!

Monday, October 10, 2005 Send A Get Well Card to Maggie

***Updates****
Maggie's dad sent this email out last night updating us with how Maggie is doing and what the next step will be. He also posted a few pictures. I thought I'd include one of them here so you can see how fantastic she is doing and that she really is reading all of the get well wishes. Please-if you feel inclined to send her a wish, do it. Click on the links below.
Here's his update:
Maggie’s team of doctors believe that they have collected as much data as possible given the type of seizures she is having. Most of Maggie’s seizures are registering on the monitoring grids that were implanted last week. However, Maggie is also having some seizure activity that is not registering on the monitoring grid (ie – the big one that happened this morning). They currently believe that those seizures are coming from some other deep areas in the temporal lobe that are not able to be monitored, but will be removed anyway.

Maggie will likely have surgery on Wednesday. Her surgery in August removed about 1/3 of the anterior temporal lobe. This next surgery will remove the other 2/3’s of the anterior part of the temporal lobe, along with the hippacampus. The posterior part of the temporal lobe cannot be removed.

A final decision has not been made yet on addressing the tumor bed – where all of this originated from. The doctors are leaning toward coring out the tumor bed, but we won’t know for sure until late Tuesday or Wednesday. Its’ risky to do it, but they want to get the rest of the tissue remaining in the tumor bed and run tests on it.

Based on this schedule and her anticipated recovery time, it is highly likely that we will be home by Saturday or Sunday!

Maggie’s hospital room walls were just about covered this evening when the nurses brought another 150 – 200 cards in. We are about to start posting her cards OUTSIDE of her room. Everyone here is loving it! Thank you so much! I’m sitting here watching Maggie read the ones that just came in and her face is smiling with laughter, her eyes are alive with such joy.
*************************************************************************************
My husband at jkOnTheRun posted this on his blog and asked us to post it on ours as well. Rob Bushway is another Microsoft Tablet MVP who my husband has gotten to know because of their common interest in tech stuff. Rob has a very sweet daughter named Maggie who had a brain tumor. I'm not exactly sure of all of the facts, you can visit their respective blogs for that information, but from what I understand, she had a brain tumor, underwent various treatments for the cancer, then started having sever seizures. She is currently in the hospital as she has had another surgery wherein they inserted monitors that can monitor brain function and activity while she is having a seizure. This in turn will help the doctors decide what their best treatment plan will be.

Why am I posting this? Well, I'm a mother. When a child suffers, no matter how well you know that child, you feel for them and the family. The hospital that Maggie is in has put together a web site so that people can send patients get well wishes. The hospital then prints these wishes out and forwards them to the patient and their family. Maggie's family has posted all of the wishes on the wall in her hospital room to remind her of all the prayers going out for her. Please click on the various links and see for yourself what a special little girl this is. Feel free to post a link on your blog. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to do this for this family.

From my husband's blog:

Send a get well card to Maggie

Fellow Tablet MVP Rob Bushway has a wonderful daughter named Maggie who is in the hospital having some pretty serious surgery due to brain cancer. Maggie is a sweet and brave little girl who can use your help to get well. The hospital in St. Louis has a program for patients on their web site where you can send Get Well ecards for Maggie and Dad Rob wants to cover the walls in her room with these cards so she can read them and have a constant reminder how many people are praying for her rapid recovery. So far she has received over 200 cards but I know we can do better than that.
I am asking everyone to go to the
hospital’s web site and send a card to Maggie so we can get all those walls covered from floor to ceiling. Maggie’s doctor is so impressed with the number of cards she’s received so far that he has promised to bring Maggie a special gift if all the walls are covered by Wednesday. Please send a card and if you have a blog post this and ask your readers to do the same. Let’s do all we can in our small way to brighten this special girl’s hospital stay. Be sure and put “Cards for Maggie” somewhere in your blog post so Google will pick them all up.
All ecards should be sent to Maggie Bushway. Rob is posting current status of Maggie’s condition and some photos from the hospital on
Maggie’s web page. Thank you.

Mobile Computing???? Me????

As many of you may know, my husband is the computer geek from jkOnTheRun. He is a Microsoft Tablet MVP-yes, he's really serious about this. Being the computer illiterate wife that I am, I usually get his hand-me-downs. Keep in mind, hand-me-downs usually means a four or five year old computer that runs, but not necessarily runs well! That's OK, because, well, I guess I really don't have a huge desire to be on a computer after sitting in front of one all day at work! I use it to check my email and occasionally look up something on the internet. Then one day, I got this fabulous idea to start blogging. I shared this idea with SuZan, and before I could figure out what had happened, "Celebrating Women" was born! Suddenly, I was faced not only with needing a better computer, but one that was more, well-mobile! In April my husband purchased his HP Tablet PC. He also has purchased all the bells and whistles that go along with it. I was very jealous of his ability to easily be connected and able to work just about anywhere. I, on the other hand, was tethered to my turtle of a computer at my desk.

Recently, my husband took possession of a brand new Gateway Tablet PC. My first thought-yes, I get the HP! Bwahaha! I'm going to be mobile!

**The first picture is what my computer looks like as a slate which I can write on with the stylus. The second picture is what it looks like making the transition from slate to more of a laptop setting. The final picture is what it looks like with it set up and the keyboard functional. Note-the keyboard comes off or can be folded under the screen when in "slate" mode. When the keyboard is removed, the "slate" is very light.

My wonderful husband got the HP all ready for me. He wiped the hard drive, did a software reload, and transferred all of my info to it! He was so excited and wanted to show me how everything worked. Unfortunately, this past week was the week from Hell. Between work, kids and homework, and a homecoming to prepare for, I don't even think I checked my email until last night! I think my husband thought I didn't like it! In actuality, I'm a little afraid of it!

Now that things have calmed down a bit, I'm looking forward to getting to know my new tablet and the freedom of mobile computing. He also got me this fancy memory card reader for my digital camera. Yeah, it's still in the package. I'm hoping to get that connected this week. Be prepared for many posts and pictures dealing with my new toy as well as other posts that may be coming fast and furious now that I'm mobile!

Everything Is Coming Up Roses....I Mean Lemons!

It worked, It worked! I don't know which one did the job, but something did. I can no longer smell that...errrr....smell from the drain. I used a combination of all of the advice I was given.

I used half of the lemons, then made a paste with the baking soda and poured it in to set all night. Then this morning, I poured the viniger (I couldn't resist the science experiment...it was awsome). Then poured boiling water to make sure the baking soda paste was washed out of the pipes. And finished but grinding the rest of the lemons down the disposal.

So now, I have the best smelling drain on the block...LMAO, a dream come true! BTW my friends, I didn't use the miniral spirits, I figured I would be taking my life in my own hands with that one.

So to my Domestic Divas:

Sunday, October 09, 2005 Woo ooooo That Smell – Armed and Dangerous!

I have put the snoz to work and it is definitely the garbage disposal drain. The crock pot smells good (I did my vanilla trick on that…and it worked) and nothing else smells. It is only when you pass the sink…and God forgive you if you have to wash a dish….yes, it is defiantly the drain!

I had to wait until the end of the Astros game to go to the grocery store. Thank you everyone for your suggestions (I am trying them all). As you can see, I am armed and dangerous! I now have all of your suggestions on hand…Bleach, lemons, vinegar, baking soda, boiling water, orange glow (to clean down the cabinets) and for good measure I’ve decided to through in some mineral spirits (hell nothing can out stench that).

So if you see a toxic explosion from south Texas tonight, please say a little prayer.

What a game! I can't believe the Houston Astros won! This was the longest post season game ever to be played in Major League Baseball...18 Innings! Saturday, October 08, 2005 Woo ooooo That Smell!

Ok folks, I have a problem that is seriously upsetting my olfactory system. I have a very sensitive snoz and this is driving me crazy. First a little history of the problem: I had fixed a wonderful meal; a roast; I love fixing it because it is one of the few dishes I make using the crock pot (I’m not much of a cook, remember). Anyway, to my delight, the teenager volunteered to do the dishes.

Fast forward now to two weeks ago: I was the first one to start noticing “a smell” in the house. It was worse when you walked in my kitchen. It was a musty, icky, nauseating smell. Then when Big-G noticed it, I knew that it was real. To my shock, the teenager did the dishes that evening, but he didn’t put the left over roast in the fridge and clean the crock pot (it is black so you really can’t see in it well). When I lifted the lid it about knocked me over. I grabbed a dishrag and tied it around my face (the stench was unbearable) and quickly put the roast and other growing organisms down the garbage disposal.

Problem solved right? WRONG! I swear I can still smell that crap down the drain. I have emptied a bottle of Pinesol down it; ice with detergent down it; dish washing liquid and hot water down it, and I can’t get rid of that smell.

HELP! Since Big-G says he is NOT changing out the pipes, any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anything works you will be deemed Domestic Diva for life in my eyes.

The Louisiana Refund

Bush Sells Louisiana Back to the French

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The White House announced today that President Bush has successfully sold the state of Louisiana back to the French at more than double its original selling price of $11,250,000.

“This is a bold step forward for America,” said Bush. “And America will be stronger and better as a result. I stand here today in unity with French Prime Minister Jack Sharaq, who was so kind to accept my offer of Louisiana in exchange for 25 million dollars cash.”

I wonder if I'll need a passport to go to Mardi Gras from now on? Found this article over on Cat's site "A Mom In The Swamp", link on over for the full story as it is a great read.

In Cat's own words "I have to agree, It is the funnest place I have ever lived. Where else can you taste test “alcoholic drinks” while shopping! or go through a drive through and pick up Daquiris! (that is just a drop in the bucket of fun things to do there!)"

The Cats Diary

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.

DAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.DAY

765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan ......

DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait. It is only a matter of time.

Changing a baby at a Restaurant…YUCK!

I read this article on MSN and it totally grossed me out! I usually don’t read Miss Manners because I feel (hopefully) that I have some common sense regarding situations, but the title itself caught my eye.

“Fast Food Baby Changing Table”

Dear Miss Manners,
Do you think that it's appropriate for a couple with a young baby to change its diaper on top of a restaurant table in a fast food establishment?

I found this to be disgusting and ridiculous. When the parents knew that myself and others were offended, the woman went to the counter to speak with the manager saying that she didn't appreciate the fact that the rest of us thought it was rude.

The manager told her it was perfectly fine to change a diaper on a table.

The most appalling thing was that after the baby was changed, they didn't even bother to sanitize the table. What do you think?

This is just gross folks. Anyone who has had children knows that the production that is deposited into said diapers is…well…just plain fowl! Not to mention that if you open the darn thing the odor not only knocks you out but also everyone else within a half a mile. I find this to be very inconsiderate of these parents; and honestly, do you think you could eat on that table after the dirty deed? Not I, just the odor alone would halt my appetite. I don’t eat at fast food places too often, but don’t they have baby changing tables in the restrooms now?

Click the LINK to see if you agree with Miss Manner’s response.

Wednesday, October 05, 2005 Way Back Wednesday!

Wow! It's Way Back Wednesday again. However, this weeks theme is easy. It's all about the pets. Mama Ducks mission should you care to accept: Heavy petting this week...of your PETS sicko!!!! Show us pictures of you with your pet (past or present...preferrably no taxidermied friends, but if you have to we'll accept it)! So here we go:

SuZan:
My household has only two pets (and one of them I don't even claim). The first is Mercedes, she rules the roost (pardon the pun). In this first picture she is with Big G (Mr. I Hate Cats), as you can see, she knows how to butter him up. Of course when she is licking his hand he always says "lick the hand of your God". Geez, he is full of it isn't he.

Now I have always admited that I spoil her just a tad. I call her "The Princess" but my sister always says "Princess hell, she is the damn Queen".

Here we have "the other pet" the damn lizard! He's ugly, he's mean, doesn't do anything but eat and poop. Nothing cuttly about Lewi but at 48 inches, he is "dead on accurate" when he whips you with his tail, and yes, he has whipped Mercedes before when she cornered him and tried to sniff him.

________________________________________

Sheri:

OK folks. I have the cutest pic of Oreo our Christmas puppy with the kids, but blogger won't let me post it (it's a conpiracy I tell ya!). So, this will have to do for now. Check back later. Maybe I'll get the other picture up!

So there you go! Link on over to Mama Duck's "The Kept Woman" to see who all is playing.

Tuesday, October 04, 2005 Which book of the Bible are you?

I saw this over at Jennifer's World. I guess this comes pretty close to describing me. I found these questions to be a little more soul searching than others. It was fun to take.

Sheri

You are Romans.

SuZan

You are Proverbs
You are Proverbs.

Hmmmmm, I just don't know about this. I don't speak much? Damn, and I thought no one could shut me up; and then there is the ...wise leaders are always in demand (BWHAHAHAHAHA!).

Epitaphs From Near And Far

Playing with names in a Ruidoso, New Mexico, cemetery:
Here lies
Johnny Yeast
Pardon me
For not rising.
.
Memory of an accident in a Uniontown, Pennsylvania cemetery:
Here lies the body
of Jonathan Blake
Stepped on the gas
Instead of the brake.

In a Silver City, Nevada, cemetery:
Here lays Butch,
We planted him raw.
He was quick on the trigger,
But slow on the draw.
.
A lawyer's epitaph in England:
Sir John Strange
Here lies an honest lawyer,
And that is Strange.

Someone determined to be anonymous in Stowe, Vermont:
I was somebody.
Who, is no business
Of yours.
.
Lester Moore was a Wells, Fargo Co. station agent for Naco, Arizona in the cowboy days of the 1880's. He's buried in the Boot Hill Cemetery inTombstone, Arizona:
Here lies Lester Moore
Four slugs from a .44
No Les No More.

In a Georgia cemetery: "I told you I was sick!"

John Penny's epitaph in the Wimborne, England, cemetery:
Reader if cash thou art
In want of any
Dig 4 feet deep
And thou wilt find a Penny.
.
On Margaret Daniels grave at Hollywood Cemetery Richmond, Virginia:
She always said her feet were killing her
but nobody believed her.
.
In a cemetery in Hartscombe, England:
On the 22nd of June
- Jonathan Fiddle -
Went out of tune.

Monday, October 03, 2005 How Evil Are You?

SuZan

Well, what do you know...I'm Switzerland! Big G would disagree with the results. After my husband healed from an injury to his right hand (36 stitches across the palm his hand)...guess who did the rehab? Let's see, he called me an Occupational Terrorist; he said I enjoyed my job...waaaaay too much (inflicting pain); and that I was just plain evil!

Saturday, October 01, 2005 The 5 Foods To Add To Your Diet

I was reading this article on MSN. It's claims were very interesting; it stated that of these certain five foods:

“Just adding more of these foods to a bad diet won't cause a drastic overnight weight loss. But adding them -- even to a bad diet -- will improve your health in some significant ways.”

So it is saying that even though you are eating more by adding these foods to your diet, it will make you healthier. So what are these magical foods?

Blueberries – Now these I could add….no problem.
Oatmeal – I like this too; I could consistently add this to the ole food consumption.
Cabbage – I’m sorry, I REALLY don’t like cabbage….I’ll have to pass.
Kale – I don’t even know what the fu*k this is.
Sardines – I like these even less than cabbage…not going to happen.

So I wonder if two out of five is OK? Even the best of intensions will go by the waist side if you can’t even tolerate the majority of the food. Oh wait, maybe that’s how you lose weight! You know it, the “eat & hurl” plan.

Now there are some foods that are wonderful for the endless weight battle:

Tomatoes – It takes more calories to digest a tomato than are in the tomato.
Carbs – Always eat some protein when you eat carbs. It does not let the carbs turn to sugar as quickly. Try to eat as little as possible of refined carbs.
Water – We all know this one.
Fruits & Veggies – Eat what you want, even though these are complex carbs, they turn to sugar slower than refined carbs.

Crap…….Blah blah blah……..I hate watching my weight.
